Kent Bazemore Returns to Kings for 1-Year Deal

Kent Bazemore has a signed a one-year deal that brings him back to the Sacramento Kings after he departed in 2020 for the Golden State Warriors, as reported by Locked On Kings. Bazemore started his NBA career with the Warriors in 2012 before he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2014. He was unable to complete the season due to an injury then signed with the Atlanta Hawks that year. Later he played with the Portland Trailblazers in 2019 and the Sacramento Kings in 2020. He returned to the Lakers in 2021. Bazemore turned 33 on July 1, 2022.

NFL star Shaq Thompson, who attended Grant Union High School, returned to his hometown Sacramento and was interviewed by ABC10's Sean Cunningham on 04/10/22. Thompson has played 7 seasons with the Carolina Panthers as linebacker. Thompson spoke against the recent gang violence in Downtown Sacramento that made national news, saying "we're supposed to be building each other up."

Thompson mentioned his brother is coaching football at Grant, a school that has produced other NFL athletes, including Devontae Booker and Donte Stallworth. Grant was also where Jay King of the successful recording act Club Nouveau went to high school.

Thompson reflects on how Del Paso Heights has been a tight-knit community and supports Grant's high school football team, The Pacers. He says that's where he learned about leadership. While attending Grant before graduating in 2012, he was involved with football, baseball and track. He continued sports at University of Washington then was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2015.

Del Paso Heights Gets New Sports Complex

KCRA News reports on 11/20/21 how a new sports complex will be developed on Norwood Avenue near Silver Eagle Road in Del Paso Heights. The area needs such a catalyst to stimulate business. The new complex will be built next to the Robinson Community Center. The softball fields are ready, but need walking trails, benches and other fixtures.

Sacramento Amazons Rugby Team Makes History

High school rugby team the Sacramento Amazons, which was founded in 2001, has become the first all-girls high school Polynesian rugby team in the United States, as reported by ABC10 on 05/16/22. This video clip features rugby player Roelenoa Lagilagi, describing her experience as a team member. Amazons head coach Wayne Koy explains the importance of the sport.
