Interview with Melonnee Desiree
SacTV.com "Video of the Day" review by
Alex Cosper on September 29, 2013
My interview with Melonnee Desiree was very enjoyable at McKinley Park on Thursday, September 26. The wind
was a little breezy, but it felt very comfortable. I had no idea until this interview that Melonnee and
I went to the same high school in Sacramento, which was Rio Americano on the American River. She told me
that she took every music class she could including choir, which helped prepare her for a life-long career
in music. Part of her many years working for the state included working for the California Arts Council,
which also helped her learn about the local music scene.
After she retired from the state a few years ago, she has focused on her first love, which is music.
Her live band plays frequently in Grass Valley and she plays in Sacramento as well. Her most recent
CD is called Cauzin' a Ruckus, which is her sixth album. It's full of authentic blues that mixes
traditional sounds with her own unique style on bass, guitar and vocals. The band consists of four other members: Rick Cartwright
on guitar and vocals, Mike Arndt on drums and vocals, Dorothy Sills on sax, harmonica and vocals and Tommy Rizzi
on keyboards. The entire album is a solid collection of listenable and danceable blues, especially songs
such as the title track, "Reason For Treason" and "Never Make Your Move Too Soon."
The band is all about inspiring a party crowd to dance. Here are some upcoming shows where her band will be performing:
