KZAP Returns on KDVS Part 4: The 60s "Video of the Day" review by Alex Cosper on November 11, 2012

Jeff Hughson and Edd Fong discuss how freeform radio lives on today at college radio station KDVS, which allowed them to bring KZAP back to the airwaves November 8-10, 2012. They mention some of the people who started out on KDVS and moved on to KZAP in its early freeform era from the late sixties through the mid-seventies. Hughson sees the internet revolution as a wide variety of niches, which is not the same as finding a wide variety in one place. College radio remains a haven for this type of programming that gave control to air personalities. With freeform, there were no rules about playlists or spoken word content. Eventually rules about presentation shaped commercial radio formats but KDVS and other college stations continue to allow wide open creativity in programming.
