Sacramento Historian William Burg: Introduction to Local Entertainment History "Video of the Day" review by Alex Cosper on August 23, 2012

William Burg is a Sacramento historian and author who so far has written four published books on local history. I met with him at Broadacre Cafe on 10th Street between J and K Streets in Downtown on August 23, 2012 to do six brief interviews about his writing. In this first interview he gives an overview of how he became interested in local history after growing up in Sacramento then going to college in Humboldt and ultimately moving back to Sacramento. His books cover a span of history that dates back prior to the Gold Rush, which is how Sacramento became one of California's first cities.

More than a local historian, William Burg has also sung in punk rock bands and has been a local business leader working to reshape Sacramento as a more vibrant cultural city. He serves as a board member of the Midtown Neighborhood Association, President of the Sacramento Old City Association and Vice President of the Sacramento County Historical Society.

He also helps organize local events such as the annual Soca Home Tour and Norcal Noisefest. This year's Soca Home Tour will be a street fair held in the historic neighborhood of Poverty Ridge on September 16. The event will feature local acoustic artists such as Autumn Sky. Visit for more information. Norcal Noisefest 2012, which celebrates experimental music, will be October 5-7 at Luna's Cafe. To learn more visit
