Don Alias is the owner and founder of 1musicnetwork,
an innovative internet radio network that made its worldwide debut Jan. 2, 2012. Alias, a radio leader who elevated
the musical careers of Alicia Keys, Dave Matthews Band, Cake and many other artists, is the son of an international
jazz musician who toured with Miles Davis and other well known artists. From an early age Alias has witnessed first hand
the changes in the way people are introduced to music. He is now venturing into the emerging new world of internet radio
as the automobile industry prepares to unleash new technology in cars that will make internet radio more widespread starting this fall.
How will internet radio compete with terrestrial radio? A better question eventually might be how will terrestrial radio
compete with internet radio? The car has been the key to radio's survival the past decade, despite radio's struggle to pay
the bills after buying over-priced stations at inflated prices as a result of the Telecom Act of 1996. The aftermath
of this law that turned radio more corporate than ever was a more homogenized sound across the radio dial and a less
enthusiastic response from listeners.
But now those disenfranchised listeners will have many more choices
for music channels that feature live DJs in their cars. 1musicnetwork's live hosts include personalities
from Sacramento radio including Akil, Rex McNeill, Charlee Simons and Autumn Larrick. THe combination of live announcers who
pick their own music presents a monumental alternative to corporate radio's automated tightly controlled
playlists. Read more about the radio and music history at Playlist Research.
