Don Alias has crafted an online network of several music channels at 1musicnetwork.com,
which launched Jan. 2, 2012. Alias spent over 25 yrs in radio as a Program Director in several markets around the country,
in which he helped indie artists get airplay, leading to record deals. In this video interview recorded May 9, 2012 at his
complex in Sacramento, Don talks about his radio career. He is the son of jazz musician Don Alias, who toured internationally
as a drummer and percussionist for big name artists such as Miles Davis, David Sanborn and Joni Mitchell. His start in radio
began with college radio. While programming in Birmingham, Alabama in the early 90s he gave early airplay to Dave Matthews
Band, leading to their deal with RCA Records.
From 2002 to 2009 Don programmed Sacramento urban station V101.1 and helped get Alicia Keys and other urban acts
signed. At V101.1 he got very involved in bringing people together for concerts at Discovery Park and Memorial Auditorium.
It's also where he worked with Akil, his business partner at 1musicnetwork.com, where he has hired several Sacramento
radio personalities to host their own internet music shows. Hosts include Akil, Rex McNeill, Charlee Simons and Autumn Larrick.
1musicnetwork.com is on the cutting edge of new technology and is set to be one of the first online music networks to be
heard in people's cars this year. Read more about the radio and music history at Playlist Research.
