An Interview with Writer David Watts Barton
SacTV.com "Video of the Day" review by
Alex Cosper on March 3, 2012
David Watts Barton has been a key writer in documenting the Sacramento music scene and beyond for
decades. After working at Tower Records on Watt & El Camino, he became The Sacramento Bee's first
pop music critic in 1982 and stayed with Northern California's largest newspaper through the
21st Century before exploring other local media such as SacPress.com and Capital Public Radio.
Barton has written about many top recording artists, often when they came through Sacramento to
play live shows.
This interview is the first of a four-part series, shot by Joe-G in front of Crocker
Art Museum on Friday, March 2, 2012. David, who loves to ride his bicycle Downtown, which he mentioned
in this KVIE Video, showed up on his bike. The interviews broadly cover David's career from
paperboy to media figure. When it comes to talking about the history of Sacramento, David Watts Barton
is an appropriate authority.
