Read about the Sacramento Local Music Scene at Playlist Research Nick Witry Nick Witry is a singer/songwriter and musician in the Sacramento music scene originating from Davis. In the 1990s he gained local airplay on alternative station KWOD 106.5 with "Dorothea's House." The song, which started on the local show then got played around the clock, was performed by Ghost with Nick on lead vocals. Other Ghost members included Matt Dudman, Mandonlin Matt, Brad Cross, Dave Lin and Mike Carr. In the 80s Nick had been in the band Racetrain, which appeared on the 1996 punk compilation album Here Comes The Summer: The Undertones Tribute Compilation with the song "Casbah Rock." After Ghost he was in Start. "Dorothea's House" on one hand was a punchy punk power pop song with a great melody. Lyrically, it was topical because it was about local serial killer Dorothea Puente, who made national headlines. The track was featured for its songwriting, performance and production quality on KWOD's hidden album called Buried Treasures, which was part of the 1995 Overflow CD album compilation. Nick also contributed to the station's previous compilation CD album Blank Astronomy in 1994 with the song "Sequel To The Sequel." In the 2010s Nick was in the Davis band Shine On, the Elvis cover band Sex Presleys and another alternative rock band called Lane5. "The Sex Presleys signed to Raucous Records in the UK with three releases with that label," Nick told SacTV in 2025. "We also recorded the theme song for the Fleetwood Town Soccer Club in the UK. They took the pitch to the song every home game." In the 2020s Nick has organized local shows at unique venues. "Lane 5 was the first live band to ever play the 'Run to Feed the Hunger' turkey trot," Nick says. "When I moved back to East Sac I was surprised that no bands played the marathon. I had been enjoying the 'Bay to Breakers' in SF for years and bands played all along the route. So I got in touch with the non-for-profit that ran it at the time and got Lane 5 a spot at the starting line to play. We played in for years and now the course is full of bands." During the pandemic, another band involving Nick, called The LVVS formed to do live cover songs. "We rehearsed all through the lockdowns and organized speak easy parties all over town. Once the lockdowns were over, we were well rehearsed and had a loyal following." Here is a list of original recordings featuring Nick Witry:
