The Mother Hips

Official website: Motherhips.com

Originally formed in 1990 among Chico State University students in Chico, California, The Mother Hips are led by Tim Bluhm on guitar and vocals. Co-founder Greg Loiacono also sings vocals and plays guitar. Other original members included Isaac Parsons on bass and Mike Wofchuck on drums. Since then members have included Paul Hoaglin on bass and John Hofer on drums.

The folk/rock band played frequently in Sacramento and the SF Bay Area prior to getting a record deal with American Recordings in the early nineties. The band's debut album was Back To The Grotto in 1995. Within a few years they gained substantial airplay on alternative station KWOD 106.5 with the song "Hey Emilie," recorded at Enharmonik Studios.

Their next album was on American, the same label as The Black Crowes. The 1995 album Part Timer Goes Full contained the lead-off single "Shut The Door," which gained airplay on KWOD, as did the song "Honeydew" from the next album. The band released their tenth album in 2018, followed by four albums through 2024.
