Jay King

Official website: Jayking.me

Jay King made Sacramento music history as the first artist from the area to have a number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. Although he was born in Oroville, which is north of Sacramento, he attended high school in Sacramento. The single that did it was Jay's band Club Nouveau with "Lean On Me," a cover of a Bill Withers hit that had already reached number one in 1972. The group was signed to Warner Bros. Records and released three albums for the label then four more independently.

Jay went on to produce and release solo albums independently. While his first solo album in 2008 was recorded in the Los Angeles area, his next solo album in 2017 was recorded in Sacramento.
