Fanny made music history after leaving Sacramento as Wild Honey for Los Angeles in the late sixties. Led by sisters June and Jean Millington, the all-female band were signed to the label started by Frank Sinatra that had signed Jimi Hendrix, Reprise Records. Producer Richard Perry, who later produced The Pointer Sisters, Rod Stewart and Carly Simon, took an interest in the band and helped them get their record deal. In 1970 they became the first all-female band to release a rock album.

Their live act was a mix of originals and covers done in a blues-rock style. Some of their singles were familiar covers that got airplay on rock and freeform stations such as "Badge" by Cream and "Ain't That Peculiar" by Marvin Gaye. They first cracked the national top 40 with "Charity Ball" in 1971. June operated as bandleader, handling guitar and vocals, while Jean played bass and sang vocals. Other members included Nickey Barclay on keyboards and vocals and Alice de Buhr on drums and vocals.

On April 13, 1973, Fanny gained national television exposure on The Midnight Special. After June left the band to study Buddhism in 1973, the other members moved to Casablanca Records the following year with a new lineup. In 1975 they had a national hit with "Butter Boy," which made the top 40 after the group disbanded. The band reunited in the 21st century under the name Fanny Walked the Earth and has played shows in the Sacramento area.
