Club Nouveau

Official website: clubnouveau.me

Club Nouveau had moved to Los Angeles by the time they hit the top of the charts, but their roots were firmly in Sacramento. Jay King formed the group after the breakup of Timex Social Club, which earned a national top ten hit in 1986, "Rumours." After the success of Timex Social Club, King's new group Club Nouveau was signed to Warner Bros. and recorded a cover of the Bill Withers hit "Lean On Me." Like the original, the cover made #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Club Nouveau's version won a Grammy the following year. It came from the 1986 album Life, Love & Pain.
