Charlie Peacock was born in Yuba City and went to college at Sacramento State in the 1970s. There he met author Frank Kofsky, who introduced him to several musicians. Following the footsteps of his musician father, Charlie learned to be a multi-instrumentalist.

In the late seventies he began writing songs and became friends with Sal Valentino, who began promoting Charlie's music to friends in the recording industry. Charlie was signed in 1980 by A&M to record his band with producer David Kahne. The Charlie Peacock Group consisted of Erik Kleven on bass, Jim Caselli on drums, Darius Babzadeh on tenor sax and Mark Herzig on guitar. By the late eighties Charlie moved to Nashville and began producing several artists.
