Read about the Sacramento Local Music Scene at Playlist Research Beat Villains The Beat Villains were a Sacramento band in the 1990s occasionally featured on alternative station KWOD 106.5, where lead singer/songwriter Alex Cosper worked. The band went through a constant evolution of new players, ultimately involving about 20 musicians. The earliest incarnation was 1992 as a three-piece with KWOD hosts David Conley and Ron Givens. Later that year night host Ally Storm joined the band on saxophone for the station's first festival, KWOD-a-Palooza, which featured Cause and Effect. Other members included John Young, Scott George, Peter Torelli, Jason Smith and James Brasier. The band made over a dozen recordings, several of which aired on the local Sunday night show The Sound of Sacramento. The one that got the most airplay was "One Long Winter" from the station's Overflow compilation CD album in 1995. Other tracks that were played on the show or on Ally's music test feature included "Joker X," "Contour Drive," "Level Headed Penguin," "Everyday Hideaway" and "Alien Sunset." The band played regular local gigs, including opening for The Plimsouls and Oleander in October 1996 at The Press Club. Here is a tracklist for the 1992 cassette album West Coast Pop Art Revival:
