TV Contestant Lindsey Pavao Hired by Radio 94.7
SacTV.com "Video of the Day" review by
Alex Cosper on June 4, 2013
Last year Lindsey Pavao was featured on national television and now she has her own radio show in
Sacramento. Hired by Radio 94.7, she will be involved in many different on air and public activities. This video performance of her
at Harlows highlights her storytelling and singing. In addition to her fast rising music and media career,
she has learned the art of crowdfunding, raising $28,000 on Kickstarter to pay for her debut studio
album called The Symptom. The amount of crowdfunding is unique for a Sacramentan, although it's
safe to say that the national TV exposure did not hurt.
Lindsey was a contestant on the NBC TV series The Voice in 2012 and wound up as a semi-finalist
in the music competition after being advised by Christina Aguilera, who praised Lindsey's work. Other stars
who gave the Sacramento artist a positive review were Fiona Apple and Cee Lo Green. Lindsey will be influential
in music selection at Radio 94.7, according to this Sacramento Business Journal article.
She will also make appearances at station events and shows at Cesar Chavez Plaza.
Radio 94.7 has continued its course as an alternative station, which has been its identity since March 2010,
a year after Entercom dropped KWOD as an alternative station. The alternative format in general has limped
off the national stage the past decade after challenging the mainstream in the nineties. One of the biggest
problems with the format has been that it mirrors the rock format too closely. Entercom, which also owns
98 Rock, has tried to keep the stations separate in terms of the playlist. Another problem that persists
is the radio industry's lack of programming imagination in favor of automated programming.
