Mark Dobbins on Guitar Quality
SacTV.com "Video of the Day" review by Alex Cosper on March 2, 2013

This interview is the third in a series with custom guitar maker Mark Dobbins. This segment is about guitar quality and how guitars increase in value. Mark warns that altering the finish on an old guitar can actually reduce its value. He says that Martin guitars made before World War II can be worth $100,000 if the original finish is preserved. He says a lot of those guitars still sound great. He works on restoring guitars and talks about how he goes about it. Explaining that the type of wood used has a lot to do with the value of the guitar, he also asserts that handcrafted guitars will like hold their value better than mass produced factory guitars. He likes to find 100 year old pianos so that he can use the wood to build new guitars. The manner in which the wood is cut also plays a big role in how well the guitar will sound and hold up over time.
