The Future of Movie Theaters with Matias Bombal
SacTV.com "Video of the Day" review by Alex Cosper on February 17, 2013

The future of movie theaters may be live performance venues according to Matias Bombal, who ran the Crest Theater in the 80s and early 90s then other theaters. He reflects on how between 1929 and 1990 a movie theater could use the same equipment, whereas since then digital projection equipment needs to be updated every five years. The cost of frequently upgrading projectors that often is cost prohibitive for a lot of movie theaters. That's why he thinks movie theaters will move more in the direction of live entertainment venues. As one of the leaders who helped revive the Crest in 1986, he has a lot of passion for the movie theater and mentions others who helped bring the theater back from darkness. Today the venue still shows movies with a mix of live entertainment.
