Jay Shaner performs his original song "Talk Me to Sleep" on acoustic guitar
in this video recorded on Dec. 5, 2012 in which we did a series of interviews at his home recording studio. Jay describes
this ballad as a "love song from the grave" and is a dedication from his grandfather to his grandmother. It was the
first track on his second album called Best Laid Plans,
which is available on iTunes. Here is a sample of some of the lyrics: "Ashes in the air /
they turn to oxygen / the cynders blown in the breeze / the feeling of my love / talk me to sleep again tonight, my dear."
The song has bluesy folk feel. Jay did a lot of the instrumentation on the album himself, but also worked with several
fellow musicians. He regularly plays at the Fox and Goose Restaurant in Downtown Sacramento at least once per month.
