Woodland Opera House Ghost Story

Jeff Kean is the Executive Director at Woodland Opera House and for years he has had to answer questions about
the venue being haunted by ghosts. These ghost stories actually go back several decades. It all started not long
after the Opera House was built in the 1890s when a fire destroyed the entire block. A fire fighter named W.W. Porter
perished in the fire but many local residents say his ghost lived on. The building was closed from 1913 through 1970
and even during that time people talked about his ghost. Since reopening, workers have noticed strange noises in
the building at times. Jeff says, "I'm not a believer ... having never had any direct experiences myself other than
my sound equipment, but I certainly don't discourage it." He says that strange things have happened with the mixing
board after performances, but it's possible someone is playing a trick on him. Anyway, the ghost legend has added
to the venue's mystique and it frequently attracts paranormal investigators.
