Cal Expo State Fair 2012
SacTV.com "Video of the Day" review by
Alex Cosper on July 28, 2012
Here's a video tour of the California State Fair shot on July 27, 2012. It features scenes of the
crowd at the fairgrounds, highlighted by a monorail tour around the fair. There are also scenes of rides,
exhibits, the water fountain and the audience for Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, who put on an energetic
and inspiring show on the Gold Circle stage. It appeared to be a bigger than usual turnout. Other artists
to play this stage in 2012 included The Fab Four, the Happy Together Tour (Mickey Dolenz, Grass Roots, Turtles featuring
Flo and Eddy, Gary Puckett, Buckinghams), Rick Springfield, Dave Mason, Hot Chelle Rae and Jim Messina.
Overall, the fair had a quality presentation,
although food prices were high compared: $8 burgers and $7 tacos. There was lower priced food near the
Promenade stage, such as a pizza slice for $3.50. The Promeande stage featured cover bands such as Pop Rocks,
who mixed "Lynyrd Skynyrd's Sweet Home Alabama" with Kool Mo Dee's "Wild Wild West."
Note: On July 31, 2012 the Sacramento Bee reported that the 2012 state fair's attendance was flat
with 692,000 overall paid visitors and 523,838. Although statistically flat, the actual overall
figure was down from 728,000 in 2011.
